Missile defense and interceptor allocation by neuro-dynamic programming

چکیده
The purpose of this paper is to propose a solution methodology for a missile defense problem involving the sequential allocation of defensive resources over a series of engagements. The problem is cast as a dynamic programming/Markovian decision problem, which is computationally intractable by exact methods because of its large number of states and its complex modeling issues. We have employed a Neuro-Dynamic Programming (NDP) framework, whereby the cost-to-go function is approximated using neural network architectures that are trained on simulated data. We report on the performance obtained using several diierent training methods, and we compare this performance with the optimal.

متن کاملStochastic Analysis of the Interception of Maneuvering Antisurface Missiles
The interception of a maneuvering antisurface missile, as in ballistic missile defense and ship defense scenarios, is formulated as an imperfect information, zero-sum, pursuit-evasion game with a state constraint imposed on the evader. Assuming that the perfect informationversion of the gamedoes not yield a successful result for the defense, the solution of this game is in mixed strategies. The...
متن کاملBounded Differential Game Guidance Law for Interceptor Missiles with Aero Fins and Reaction Jets
A differential game guidance law for an endoatmospheric interceptor missile steered by aero fins and reaction jets is developed in this paper with bounded controls. For a low-altitude endoatmospheric interceptor, the propellant of the reaction-jet control system (RCS) is restricted by the missile configuration. Considering propellant limits, the effect of the RCS thrust on homing performance is...
متن کاملComparison of Boost Phase Prediction Methods For Missile Defense
This paper addresses the issue of predicting where a boosting threat missile will be several minutes in the future. The prediction issue is important for missile defense because it can be a key factor in determining how heavy an exoatmospheric interceptor has to be. Simplified examples are presented comparing the effectiveness of two prediction methods in terms of accuracy and robustness. Final...
